What can I donate to?
You can either support our work with a project-independent direct donation or with your donation to a specific HAUKARI e.V. project. Every donation that you transfer for a specific project is earmarked and will be used by us for this purpose. However, donations that are independent of a specific project are particularly important to us and we use them flexibly where they are most needed.
Is my donation tax-deductible?
HAUKARI e.V. is recognised as a non-profit association by the Frankfurt am Main III tax office with tax number 014 255 41594. The last notice of exemption is dated 11.04.2025. Your donation is therefore tax deductible.
Will I receive a donation receipt?
For donations of 50 euros or more, we will automatically send you a donation receipt (donation confirmation) at the beginning of February of the following year. We need your full address for this. If you need this in advance, please contact Susanne Bötte, e-mail: info@haukari.de.
On request, we will of course also issue a donation receipt for donations of less than 50 euros. Legally, however, your tax office only requires donation receipts for donations of 200 euros or more. If you donate more than once a year, we will not send you an individual receipt, but an annual donation receipt for the previous year at the beginning of the following year.
How do I change my data?
You are already a donor to HAUKARI e.V. and would like to inform us of important changes to your address details, bank details or donation amount. Please use our contact form or send us an e-mail to info@haukari.de. Please include your old contact details with all changes. This will make it easier for us to ‘find’ you and at the same time help to save administrative costs.
How high are the administrative costs?
HAUKARI e.V. endeavours to reduce advertising and administrative costs to a necessary minimum. This is achieved, among other things, through co-operation with competent partners in the project countries and the efficient use of available funds. Since 2004, HAUKARI e.V. has carried the DZI donation seal, which is awarded by the German Central Institute for Social Issues (DZI) following an annual audit, as a sign of the responsible handling of the funds entrusted to us. With this seal, the institute certifies that HAUKARI e.V. “works in accordance with its statutes. Advertising and public relations provide clear, truthful, factual and open information. The proportion of advertising and administrative expenditure to total expenditure is low according to DZI standards (‘low’ = less than 10%). The effectiveness of the use of funds is reviewed, and the results are documented and published to a sufficient extent. The organisation reports openly and comprehensively on its work, structures and finances.
How transparent is HAUKARI e.V.?
Every year, HAUKARI e.V. provides a detailed account of all its work in the previous year in its annual report. It presents the focal points of our work, including an overview of all funded projects. You can see how much we received in donations and public grants overall and which countries and project areas our funds were used for.
Who monitors the work of HAUKARI e.V.?
The work of HAUKARI e.V. is regularly audited by various external institutions. The Frankfurt am Main tax office checks the tax exemption and thus the authorisation to issue donation receipts every three years. Funding organisations such as the Federal Foreign Office monitor the proper use of publicly funded projects. The work of the project partners is audited by HAUKARI e.V.; for some projects, external experts are also used for project evaluation and/or local auditors.
How can I find out more about HAUKARI e.V.?
As a donor or interested party, you will receive our newsletter several times a year, in which we try to keep you informed about the current situation in Iraq and the Kurdish region with background reports in addition to the latest project information. You can subscribe to the newsletter on our website here.
How is my data protected?
Our cooperation with the HelpDirect donation portal ensures that your data is transmitted exclusively using SSL/TLS encryption. This guarantees the highest possible level of security. Your data is not stored online. We, the employees of HAUKARI e.V., also handle your data with care. As a matter of principle, we do not pass on addresses and other data to third parties.
Cancellation
You can cancel long-term donation agreements (regular donations, sponsoring memberships, etc.) at any time without giving reasons and with immediate effect and revoke the direct debit authorisation. Amounts paid in advance or already collected will be refunded on request if the debit date is no more than eight weeks ago. The conditions agreed with your bank apply.
The same conditions apply to one-off direct debit authorisations.
